Uwase Promesse, born in 2017 in Musanze District, began life under the heavyshadow of poverty. With a mother NYIRANSENGIYUMVA Jaqueline, NGABONZIZA Ericstruggling to provide and a stepfather unable to offer stability, her early childhood was marked by uncertainty, scarcity, and dreams that seemed almost impossible.Yet even amid hardship, Promesse’s spirit shone. Her curiosity, resilience, and quiet strength refused to be dimmed. Everything began to change when Art for Change Rwanda welcomed her, giving her access to school, a safe environment, and the chance to grow. Through painting and drawing, she found a voice to express her emotions, dreams, and hope, reclaiming the joy and innocence poverty had threatened to steal. Today, Promise is a confident, joyful, and creative young girl. Her smile, her art, and herdetermination reflect a journey from struggle to possibility a testament to the transformative power of care, opportunity, and love. She is proof that even in the hardest circumstances; a child can rise, shine, and embrace a future full of promise.
